2 Euro BU 2025 550th anniversary birth of Michelangelo

The Vatican City State presents the 2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to the great genius of the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo Buonarroti, on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his birth. The reverse depicts the Dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, an architectural masterpiece designed by Michelangelo and one of the highest symbols of Christianity. Beneath it appears a reference to the structure of the vault of the Sistine Chapel, which he masterfully frescoed. On the left appears the artist s autograph signature, Michelagniolo, reproduced from original documents. This issue celebrates Michelangelo as an extraordinary sculptor and painter, as well as a profound interpreter of the Christian faith. He was a witness to the beauty that unites art and spirituality at the heart of Christianity.

2 Euro coin 2025 BU "Anno Santo/Holy Year" MMXXV

On the night of Christmas Eve, with the solemn gesture of opening the Holy Door of St. Peter s Basilica, Pope Francis officially inaugurated the Jubilee of 2025, a journey of grace that envelops the entire world in the light of hope. The commemorative 2-euro coin of the Holy Year MMXXV, created by the artist Daniela Longo, depicts the Pope precisely in the act of opening with his own hands the Holy Door of St. Peter s Basilica. It is an image that marks the beginning of a special year for the whole world, an invitation for everyone to cross the threshold of faith and hope. The image of the Pontiff before the Holy Door rises to an iconic representation of the shepherd who leads his people toward reconciliation with God and into His merciful embrace. Pope Francis wanted a Jubilee that would be a symbol of an open door, of a community that welcomes without reserve, especially those who feel distant from the Church, those who live in suffering, or those on the margins of society.

2 Euro coin 2025 BU Sede Vacante MMXXV

This coin commemorates the Sede Vacante, the period between the end of a pontificate and the election of a new Pope. At its centre is the coat of arms of Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, who was entrusted with managing the Holy See s assets during the interregnum. Surmounted by the umbraculum and crossed keys, symbols of papal authority in the absence of a pontiff, the coat of arms evokes the solemnity and institutional continuity of the Church. The dove depicted in the legend represents the Holy Spirit, invoked to enlighten the cardinals as they discern God's will in choosing the new Pope. The coin pays tribute to the Camerlengo s role during one of the most delicate phases of ecclesial life.
